Safeguarding over Christmas

The school is now closed for the Christmas holidays. Any safeguarding concerns can be reported to the East Riding Safeguarding Team via their online form at https://ersab.org.uk during office hours (the website also includes an emergency out-of-hours number), or the Hull EHASH Team on 01482 379090. Change of catering contractor for 2025-26

We will be moving to a new catering service provider for the new academic year. The new provider is Caterlink and they already work in a number of local schools. Further communications will be posted via Arbor as the academic year draws to a close but for the rest of Term 3 we would request that parents and guardians check their balances on Arbor and only add funds sufficient for the rest of the term.

On Thursday 25 November 2021, we were delighted to host our annual Academic Awards Evening for Key Stage 4 and 5 and students.

The event is held to publicly recognise and celebrate the efforts and achievements of our students during the preceding year. Congratulations to those who were nominated and received an award.

This year, Lizann Lowson (CEO of The Consortium Academy Trust) joined our event as our Guest Speaker, Harmony and James showcased their musical talent as students and parents arrived and Lynda Dennett received our Fellowship Award for her outstanding contribution to Wolfreton School and Sixth Form College.

Celebrating a GCSE day like no other

On a GCSE Results Day like no other, students and staff came together to celebrate all of the hard work that has led to today’s achievements. Despite the upheaval of the last few months, there were plenty of smiles as students received the results so important to their future progression. An overriding emotion was relief after all the uncertainty.

Despite the challenges and uncertainty of the last few months, today we celebrated the resilience and hard work of our students and staff as we came together on A Level Results Day. Groups of students were invited into school to collect their results within small friendship groups to ensure social distancing was maintained and staff were on hand to offer support and guidance where required. As usual, there was a mix of university destinations, both local and further afield.

World Children's Haiku Contest

Year 8 and 9 students entered the biennial 16th World Children's Haiku Contest 2020 in March and the results have just come through. Polly F's haiku was chosen was one of the 3rd placed JAL prize winning poems. Japanese teacher Mrs Sands said 'Polly is the kind of student who tackles any task enthusiastically and I am so glad her hard work has been externally acknowledged, too.'

Nihongo Cup 2020

Congratulations to Year 10 student Lucy, who took part in the annual Nihongo Cup, a prestigious Japanese speech competition, albeit virtually for the first time due to the current coronavirus pandemic. Lucy's confident performance was on the subject of "Why we should learn foreign languages?" She expressed beautifully the advantages and joy of being able to speak foreign languages and she was very well placed to speak about this topic as she studies Spanish and Japanese as part of the curriculum and French in her own time.

Nihongo Cup 2020

Congratulations to Lucy, one of our Year 10 Japanese students who has been selected as one of the KS4 pre-GCSE category finalists in this year’s prestigious Nihongo Cup. The Nihongo Cup is a Japanese speech contest for secondary school students. Finalists are invited to perform their speech at the Nissan Institute of Japanese Studies, University of Oxford in front of a panel of judges and VIPs from the field of Japanese language education and Japan-UK relations, for the chance to win some fantastic prizes – including a trip to Japan! A group of Year 10 students had just started their entry prep when the Coronavirus struck and so it was touch and go whether they would enter the competition at all. However, a number of the students were very keen to continue and so preparations resumed, this time remotely. Japanese teacher Mrs Sands said ‘I was amazed by the students’ calmness given the circumstances at the time (the UK was about to enter lock-down), and was impressed by their determination to complete the initial entry requirements for selection. Lucy is a natural linguist and is so excited!’

Languages students' home scavenger hunt

This week students studying French and Spanish were set the challenge of a home-based Scavenger Hunt (in either French or Spanish, to test their vocabulary skills). They had to find ten everyday household items (a cuddly toy, a glass, a comb, a roll of toilet paper, an egg, a fork, a pen, a hanger, a tea bag and a white sock) and send their teacher a photo of what they'd gathered together - another creative and fun way that home learning is continuing at Wolfreton.

Public Health Nurse support

The Haltemprice School Nurse and Health Visiting team (ISPHNs) is available for all children aged 0-19 years. They would like to inform all schools in the Haltemprice area that they are still accessible for phone/virtual advice and support at this difficult time, for students, their parents/families/carers.

Their office contact number is 01482 335010. They are able to remotely access any messages left for the team Monday to Friday 9-5, adhering to data protection guidance and maintaining confidentiality at all times.

They have a Facebook page – East Riding Health Visitors & School Nurses-ISPHNs. This page is frequently updated with useful information by the Health Visiting and School Nursing social media team.

They also have a recently launched website. On here children and their families can find lots of very useful information on various topics, with hyperlinks to trusted websites for further advice. The website covers ages 0-19 years. The website address is humberisphn.nhs.uk

Also available to secondary school children is the CHAT HEALTH service. This is a confidential texting service available to students aged 11-19 years. The nurses can provide advice and support via text, the young person does not need to give any personal information should they wish to remain anonymous.

Some young people are aware of this service but a reminder that it is still available Monday to Friday 9-5 even though they are not in school. Students can discuss things such as; self-harm, emotional health and wellbeing, gender identity, healthy eating, drugs, alcohol, sexual health or anything else they have concerns/worries about. The CHAT HEALTH number is 07507 332891.

Their website is a useful resource for many parent/carer queries, and also contains information to support young people https://humberisphn.nhs.uk/

Tree planting

Volleyball tournament

Key Stage 4 Volleyball Tournament @ Cottingham High School

Despite being the youngest in the competition both of our teams did really well, with Team A winning their group and finishing second overall after losing in the Final. Team B finished seventh out of eight. Both teams played really well on the night against teams from Cottingham, South Hunsley and Hessle. Well done to everyone who took part.

Christmas Concert

Well done to all of our students who took part in the Christmas Concert which featured featured solos, duets, the Year 11 Rock Band, the choir, and a string group as well as the orchestra. The evening was the culmination of lots of hard work from both students and staff and a celebration of all things festive. Many thanks as always to our parents and members of our local community who support our young people in all that they do.

Greens won the most constituencies with 21
However Labour won the most votes
This was not enough for an overall majority (26 seats)
The most likely outcome would be a Labour/Green Coalition
In our election Jonathan Bartley & Siân Berry (Green Party) would become Prime Minister.
