Art

Art is the oxygen that allows other subjects to breath

A place to inspire you to: take risks; express your ideas in new ways; develop your cultural awareness; foster resilience; become empowered; have fun and, above all, flourish.

‘Art, craft and design embody some of the highest forms of human creativity. A high-quality art and design education should engage, inspire and challenge students, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. As students progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. They should also know how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.’ Adapted from National Curriculum, DfE, 2014.

We will endeavour to engage and excite you into developing a lifelong curiosity for creative learning. We will equip you with rich progressive knowledge, mastery skills and a deep understanding of the Art, craft and design world. You will express yourself in 2D and 3D both traditionally and technologically. You will create imaginative, ideas and develop these carefully to realise your initial intentions. You will evaluate and critically reflect your own work and the work of others.

Homework

KS3 – Students will be set independent work in a range of formats ranging for artists research to art, design and crafts techniques and experiments. Work will link to and extend class work and is planned to be purposeful and set at appropriate intervals throughout the academic year.

KS4 – The requirement to work outside of lessons at GCSE level of study is paramount to success. Students are expected to work at home and or attend weekly support sessions to maximise their potential. Students with guidance should always be looking for opportunities to develop portfolio work and develop their skills, knowledge and understanding.

Extra-curricular

KS4 – Year 10 and 11

Students are currently supported with weekly year 10 and 11 after school support sessions throughout the course. In addition, students will have the opportunity to attend extended after school and holiday support sessions as appropriate.
