Physical Education
More than Sport: Building teamwork, resilience and confidence
Physical Education inspires lifelong enjoyment and understanding of a range of sporting physical activities developing well-being, independence, confidence and collaborative skills.
At Wolfreton, our PE program aims to get students excited about being active and help them understand how sports and movement contribute to a healthy life and society. Through fun activities and challenges, students learn to plan tactics, analyse their performance, and appreciate the different components of fitness, teamwork, and performance.
A key focus of our core PE program at KS3 is the development of students' technical and tactical performance and understanding. This means we go beyond simply playing games. We break down the fundamental skills of each sport, ensuring students master techniques like passing, shooting, and defending. We also emphasise tactical awareness, teaching students how to read the game, anticipate opponents' moves, and make effective decisions under pressure. This involves understanding formations, implementing game plans, and adapting strategies based on the situation. Students learn to analyse their own and others' performance, identifying strengths and weaknesses to improve their overall gameplay. Through drills, practices, and game-like scenarios, they develop the ability to apply these technical and tactical skills effectively. We concentrate on both practical skills and the ability to think critically about sports.
PE also helps students grow as individuals. We encourage teamwork, critical thinking, and respect for different abilities. This helps them understand health, fitness, and how people interact through sports. It also promotes values like fair play and resilience, preparing them to be active and responsible citizens.
