Not In Our Community

A group of our Peer Mentor students from Years 7, 8 and 9 attended the Not in Our Community Youth Summit held recently for schools across the region. They learned more about grooming and exploitation of children ahead of national Child Sexual Exploitation Awareness Day on 18 March. Through activities, role play and literature they were given an insight into the strategies used by perpetrators and encouraged to think, spot and speak out against abuse. Neve said 'It was really useful as you don't always think it would happen in your own community but it can happen anywhere.' Ruby said 'We learned that perpetrators of this type of abuse have been getting better at hiding their intentions and we talked about the signs to look out for.' Charlotte added 'As we're part of the Peer Mentor House Focus Group we'll be able to share our knowledge to help protect other students.'
