Design Technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, students design, develop, model and manufacture products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. High quality design and technology education makes an essential contribution to the creativity, culture, wealth and well-being of the nation.

Key Stage 4 

GCSE Design and Technology – Exam Board

Year 9

  1. Photo frame project:  Properties of polymers, smart materials revisiting 2D design skills, introducing CAM including the router and sublimation printer.
  2. Pull along toy project:  Properties of woods and mechanisms production processes using hand tools. revisiting orthographic drawing and joining techniques.
  3. Angle poise lamp project:  Properties of metals, joining materials, electrical schematic design, manufacturing PCB, using the lathe and vac former and using hand tools.

Year 10

  1. Board game project:  Client briefs, product research, specification and designing for customers (NEA section 1 practise)
  2. Disability aids project:  2d/3d modelling with CAD and software packages (NEA section 3, 4 practise)
  3. Non NEA components preparation:  Mini project on NEA theme for revision using completed projects.

Year 11

  1. NEA
  2. Examination preparation for theoretical elements
