BBC Bitesize Roadshow

Students at Wolfreton were the first in the country to take advantage of a new BBC Bitesize careers roadshow which is touring initially in the North East and Yorkshire, providing students with information about careers in the creative industries. A large production team set up in the theatre and introductory video footage highlighted the breadth of opportunities in the creative sector available to young people, with over 30,000 people employed by the BBC alone. Sarah Jane from the production team explained ‘Today we are aiming to achieve two things. Firstly to introduce students to the idea of a career in a creative field through finding out about local opportunities and meeting our panelists. Secondly promoting the new careers section on the BBC Bitesize website which provides students with lots of useful careers resources, on top of the huge amount of information it already contains as a revision tool.’

The event was hosted by Radio 1 and CBBC’s Katie Thistleton and featured a panel from local creatives: Chris from Octovision Media, Rachel from Sauce and Amy from Eskimo Soup. They answered questions on their day to day working lives, career highlights, their routes into their particular field of expertise and the skills they feel are essential. Students were then able to ask the panel further questions, concluding an interesting and informative event.
