The Wolfreton Rushanje Community

Partnership

Page Index

Afterwards we were again subjected to crowds of students all in the sunday best and wanting to welcome us personally. By now it was nearly lunch time and we were shown around the school and in particular at the damage caused by the torrential rains earlier this year and the effects of the landslide that followed, destroying some school buildings, houses and the road leading to the school.
In the afternoon we joined students, parents, PTA members, govenors and teachers in an afternoon of ceremony and entertainment.

Wolfreton parents and students have provided funds for many projects at Rushanje, the latest being the construction fo a dormitory building which has been named ‘Wolfreton house’ in recognition of our support. This building is not yet complete but the main structure is finished despite some damage during the landslide. When finished, the old dormitory will become a science laboritory. Our task was to lay the foundation stone and plant a tree to mark the occasion, this was another moving  occasion for us both.
There then followed a ceremony of accepting the new year Senior 1 as full members of the school. Each student swears allegance to the school and their country and makes promises to work hard and be good. This completed the formal ceremonies and then there followed a period of entertainment by each of the year groups which involved singing traditional and local songs and dancing. This went on for two hours, by which time we were ready for our tea and relaxation. However the day was not yet over as we were invited in the evening to a reception to meet the teachers and non teaching staff. What a day!! The whole day had been magical from beginning to end and one we will never forget.”

Thanks to parents and friends
Before the staff left for Uganda, an appeal was made for further funds to help Rushanje school to improve the conditions and environment for the students. The Govenors, PTA, Staff, and Students of Rushanje School all send their sincere thanks to all who have contributed in any way. The funds raised will help towards: The completion of Wolfreton House; Install a gravity water supply, indoor washing/shower facilities and indoor toilet facilities; provide computers that will work from battery/solar power; Convert the old dormitory into a science lab.
These are the immediate aims and cannot be achieved without further fundraising. We would be grateful if any parents have contacts or knowledge of other sources of funding that we could approach. A complete summary of the partnership and pictures are
