Disappointing News
Disaster strikes at Rushanje May 2003
Springtime is the rainy season in Uganda and this year has been no exception. But like many countries Uganda is experiencing a greater variation in the weather and the rain in May has been torrential.
The school is built at the foot of a range of hills and earlier this month a huge landslide fuelled by the incessant rain swept down the hills and through part of the school, damaging structures and buildings. The toilets, classrooms and unfortunately Wolfreton House were all damaged. The latest information that we have is that the foundations to Wolfreton House have been affected, but the damage is minor, limited to water ingress to the brickwork and it will dry out with time.
In the local area roads have been swept away and there was a danger of disease spreading.




The old kitchen has been destroyed, it was full in the path of the landslide. Due to the need to provide food, a new kitchen had to be built immediately. Unfortunately there is still no provision for students to collect their food undercover when it rains. There is a

These pictures show the awesome force of water: carving out the ground and transporting tons of rock down the hillside. A temporary road surface now passes over the top of all the debris and the original road.
