SPONSORSHIP GUIDELINES (RUSHANJE)

These guidelines have been produced at the request of sponsors, and are based on their experiences.  They are intended to provide advice and are not a definitive set of instructions. However it is intended that the information is used to ensure that the sponsorship is of benefit to both parties.  Background information and the history of the partnership can be found on the website
www.wolfreton.eril.net.

SPONSORSHIP

Sponsorship is mainly to help students who for whatever reason are unable to attend school and benefit from an education.  This may include:

Students who have lost one or both parents due to Aids or any other reason

Students who suffer from a debilitating illness or physical disability

Students whose parents are suffering financial hardship

Students whose parents do not regard education as a priority and refuse to allow their child to attend school or withhold fees

Sponsorship may be granted as a result of individual requests, which are supported by the partner School

When a student is nominated for sponsorship the reason must be stated.

If a sponsored student misbehaves or fails to work hard or correspond with their sponsor, the Headteacher has the right to terminate the sponsorship.  This should only occur in extreme circumstances after a suitable warning and failure to address the problem.  The Uk sponsor should be involved if possible.

COMMUNICATION / CONTACT

Communication between the student and sponsor is vitally important.  Sponsors usually like to make contact with ‘their’ student and  expect this to reciprocated.  Finding out about each others’ background and family is very rewarding.  It also makes the sponsorship more personal.

Sponsors are advised to include an addressed envelope with their mail and two international
posting vouchers to cover the cost of return air mail.  This will ensure that the main financial obstacles are overcome and facilitate the two - way communication.

The frequency of contact will be regulated by the sponsor  but we suggest that one letter per ½ term
