BTEC Tech Award 2017 in Health and Social Care

Students who commenced their GCSE course in Year 9 in September 2016 will follow the BTEC Tech Award 2017 in Health and Social Care

Aims of the course:

Health and Social Care offers an exciting opportunity to develop your knowledge and understanding of health and social care services, jobs and skills.

This course relates everything to the workplace and will help you to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attributes essential for successful performance in working life.

Course content:

  • Human Lifespan Development
  • Health and Social Care Services and Values
  • Health and Well-Being

Assessment:
Although most of the units you complete are coursework tasks assessed in school, you will be externally assessed on one of the core units (40% external assessment).

Sixth Form Courses 

BTEC Health and Social Care (Edexcel)

Aims of the course:

The BTEC National Extended Certificate is specifically aimed at students who wish to pursue a career in the health and social care sector.  It is a vocational course that is equivalent to one A Level.

Course Content:

The units studied are:

  • Human Lifespan Development
  • Meeting Individual Needs
  • Working in Health and Social Care
  • Psychological Perspectives

Assessment:

Students beginning the A Level course in September 2017 will complete the linear A Level.  The course comprises:

  • 58% Examination / Set Task
  • 42% coursework

The BTEC Diploma, which is the equivalent of two A Levels is also available.

BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care

Students study the Edexcel Level 3 Specification in Years 12 and 13.

Health and Social Care is directly linked to people of all ages and their life experiences. If you are a person who enjoys working with others, caring and supporting people then this subject will be of interest to you.
You will study 8 mandatory units and choose additional units from a choice of options. Work experience is also a key element of the course. Students will be required to choose a suitable work place in a health, social care or early years setting, they will attend this placement weekly throughout the duration of the course.
