Governing Body

A school’s Governing Body is responsible for the strategic direction and governance of the school and for holding the Headteacher and the school’s Leadership Team to account. In addition to establishing the school aims, the Governing Body also advise on and agree the school development plan, school targets and school policy.

The Governing Body and the Headteacher work in partnership to maintain a clear focus on continued improvement and positive outcomes for all members of the school community.

The Governing Body do not get involved in the day-to-day leadership of the school, which is the responsibility of the Headteacher.

Wolfreton is fortunate to have a very experienced and committed Governing Body.

The Governing Body comprises:

  • 1 x Headteacher
  • 7 x Elected Parent Governors
  • 1 x Authority Governor
  • 6 x Co-opted Governors
  • 1 x Staff Governor
  • 3 x Associate Governors (including the Deputy Headteacher, the Head Boy and the Head Girl).

The Governing Body meets for 5 Full Governing Body Meetings each year.

Background information: I am a Parent Governor, appointed in February 2015. I have run my own marketing business since 2009 and previously worked in senior communications roles at KCOM Group and Tata Steel. I aim to use my experience and skills to support the Governing Body in challenging and assisting the school to continue to deliver an excellent learning environment, which encourages all children to achieve their potential.

Background information: I have been a governor of Wolfreton for many years; initially as a staff representative and now as a co-opted governor. My background is Education. I taught English at Wolfreton for almost 30 years, was a Head of Year for much of that time and was involved in Gifted and Talented initiatives. I believe passionately in the welfare of children; I am Chair of Hull and East Riding NSPCC and for forty years have worked to raise money and raise the profile of the society. Wolfreton is tremendously important to me and I will continue to work to ensure its continued success.

Background information: I have been teaching at Wolfreton since 2010 and currently hold the post of Lead Teacher for ICT.  I have a Degree in Computer Science and, alongside our ICT courses, am looking forward to furthering our education in the field of Computing.  I am involved in a number of aspects of the school community, including educational trips, the Comenius project and the development of ‘Radio Wolf’.  I aspire to maintain strong, positive links with the Staff and Governing Body for the benefit of our students and their learning.

Background information: I have been a teacher for nearly twenty years, starting in schools in Hull and at Wolfreton for many years.  In addition, both of my children were students at Wolfreton and have gone on to successful degree courses.  I was elected as staff governor as I wanted an overview of the direction in which the school was heading and an input into the difficult choices that need to be made.

Background information: I am a Parent Governor with two children at Wolfreton. I have had experience as a Governor at Swanland Academy prior to joining Wolfreton, as a Governor, Director and Trustee in the Academy there. My professional background is in finance – as a bank manager before leaving to start our own business in 1999 in financial services and property finance. I coach in both codes of rugby and am a Director at Hullensians RUFC Ltd.

Background information: I have been a Parent Governor at Wolfreton for over 5 years and a Governor prior to that at St Andrews School, Kirk Ella. I have one son at Wolfreton and an elder son who has recently finished his time there. I have previously sat on the Curriculum Committee at St Andrews and chaired the Finance Committee at Wolfreton, as well as being a part of the governing body through the recent impressive new build and its conversion to academy status. I am a director of two businesses in the private sector supplying FMCG products to major retailers in the UK. I have also been a member of the Round Table charity organisation for over 20 years.

Background information: I am a Parent Governor with two children at Wolfreton. I was a Primary School Teacher with senior management team responsibilities so I have experience in the education sector. I am currently the Children's and Families' Worker for a local church so I live and work in the local community. In my spare time I love to go to the theatre or to read a really good detective novel.

Background information: I was previously a Parent Governor at Wolfreton for over 5 years and have recently joined the Governing Body again as a Co-Opted Governor.  My youngest daughter is a student at Wolfreton.  I work for the East Riding of Yorkshire Council as a senior manager and feel that the skills and qualities required to undertake the role can be used to support and challenge the leadership at Wolfreton, ensuring that every student’s maximum potential is reached whilst their well-being always put first.
