Extra-curricular
Whether students have existing interests or feel like trying something new, there are a wide range of extra-curricular and enrichment opportunities to get involved in.
Sport
For those with sporting interests, there are a large number of clubs to join. From traditional team games including football, netball, rugby and basketball, to individual sports including athletics and badminton, we hope there is something for everyone.
Our sports teams work hard together and many have enjoyed high levels of success locally, regionally and nationally.
Sports leadership opportunities are also available. Older students are able to support and coach the teams and practices for younger students in school, as well as being able to work with younger children in our partner primary schools as part of sporting events or festivals.

Creative and Performing Arts
The school’s Creative and Performing Arts Faculty provide opportunities for students to explore their creative interests and develop their skills. Each term art clubs, music groups and the choir meet to practice or prepare for showcase events.
Students across the year groups have been involved in staging school productions including the “Wizard of Oz”, “Jungle Book” and “Sweeney Todd”. The 2017 production of Annie included a cast of students from across the year groups. Smaller drama groups present a range of productions each year, an Art Exhibition showcases the work or our art and photography students and the popular Christmas and summer concerts involve our orchestras, choirs and music groups.
We also work closely with the School’s Music Service to enable students to learn a musical instrument. For further information on these opportunities, please contact the school to speak to the Curriculum Area Leader for Creative and Performing Arts.
Work experience and work related learning opportunities
As a school we recognise the benefits that working in partnership employers brings for young people and therefore, work experience is a major element in the CEIAG model at Wolfreton.
Work experience provides an introduction and a realistic understanding about the world of work in terms of hours, travelling, organisational structures and problems, working with adults, meeting the general public and the repetitive aspects of some work practices.
All students in Years 10 and 12 are able to participate in work experience weeks. Further opportunities are available are available for students following vocational courses.

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) Activities
Each year a range of STEM enrichment opportunities are open to groups of students. In 2016, the Technology department accompanied a team of Year 9 students to the annual TeenTech competition. This national initiative introduces students to career opportunities in the STEM subjects through a competitive challenges. The Wolfreton team secured FIRST place in the 2016 event.
In 2017 a group of students worked with the Science and Technology teams to design, build and ultimately race a Greenpower single seat electric race car in a competition against other schools.
Other enrichment opportunities included a visit to Cranswick Foods to complete a 'sausage branding challenge'! Cranswick came into school and delivered STEM sessions to the students to help them develop their own branding and flavour of sausage that was ultimately showcased at Hull's Freedom Festival.
Educational Visits
As a school we strongly believe in the value of school trips. Not only do trips enhance curriculum studies but they also provide an opportunity to widen horizons, develop personal interests and a different set of working relationships. In our experience, time spent on trips with peers and staff is often motivational before and during the trip, and it can also enhance other aspects of school life following the trip.
Each year we offer our students a range of opportunities to participate in trips both locally and further afield. While some trips are one-offs, taking advantage of opportunities or events that arise, others are popular annual trips that many remember fondly long after they return.
Wherever possible we will provide an indication of the range of school trips which may be offered each year, however it is important to appreciate that in providing the widest range of relevant and quality trips, opportunities may vary from those indicated. For example, trips related to sporting events or the creative and performing arts are offered following the publication of external schedules, and other trips may unfortunately be cancelled if interest is insufficient.
Safety
The safety of our students and staff is of paramount importance on all school trips. Any trip we lead is planned in accordance with Local Authority guidelines.
Funding
As a school we do not receive funding for educational visits, therefore we do make charges to students who wish to participate in these. In-line with government guidelines, payment for compulsory curriculum related trips is voluntary, however we are only able to offer these trips if sufficient voluntary payments are made. In the case of optional curriculum enhancement trips, a full charge is made. As a fully inclusive school we aim to offer a range of trips to ensure that all students can benefit from experiences beyond the classroom.

Trip Organiser – The named trip organiser will be able to provide additional information about specific trips.
A wide range of other curriculum and interest linked clubs take place. Student House Reps discuss these annually and where there is interest in a new activity, we work together to see where it is possible to support this.
