Academic Awards 2017

We celebrated our annual Academic Awards Evening at Willerby Manor Hotel and we were delighted to welcome Professor Brad Gibson, Astrophysicist and Director of the E. A. Milne Centre for Astrophysics at the University of Hull, as our keynote speaker. Professor Gibson offered students a number of pearls of wisdom, perhaps most importantly reminding students that excellence exists everywhere and success in life will come from passsion, work ethic and commitment. Over 350 students, parents and staff joined together to recognise the hardwork and academic success of our students from Year 7 to sixth form. James Lucas, who is now studying Physics at the University of Manchester, received our Elite Award, presented to the student who achieved the highest number of A*-A grades and highest total point score in their A level studies.

Unusually this year, after discussing a number of nominations, each one worthy of recognition for the many contributions they had made to the school over the years, the school's governors decided to award two Fellowship Awards. These went to former Chair of Governors Lance Boanas and former Admin and Personnel Manager Libby Lees. Headteacher Mr McCready praised the students for their endeavours, telling them that they should take great pride in the fact that their efforts in external examinations and internal assessments have been recognised. He said 'I urge you to build on your successes, continue to set yourself high targets and strivve to reach them.'
