You will study English Language and English Literature as 2 separate GCSEs.
AIMS OF THE COURSE
- To develop your understanding of the spoken word and take part in a variety of speaking and listening activities.
- To develop your ability to read, understand and respond to all types of texts.
- To improve your written work by using the appropriate style and by writing for a variety of audiences.
COURSE CONTENT
- * You will produce two coursework folders which will include assignments based upon Shakespeare, original writing, the media, pre-1914 Prose Study, 20th century drama and works of non-fiction.
- * You will study either an anthology of texts or set texts prescribed by the examination board.
- * You will be able to submit the same coursework for both exams (Shakespeare and pre-1914 Prose Study).
HOMEWORK
You will be given regular homework and the importance of deadlines, especially for coursework, will be emphasised by your teacher.
ASSESSMENT AND REVIEW
English Language Coursework 40% Examination 60%
English Literature Coursework 30% Examination 70%
Your ability to assess your own work honestly and openly will be essential as you will be expected to take an increasing responsibility for your own learning as the course progresses. You will be encouraged to suggest and discuss your own ideas for assignment work. You will be given regular practice to improve your examination skills.
